In general, QLED has higher image quality and brightness. It also handles reflexion better.
Samsung 'Crystal UHD', on the other hand, is much cheaper.
What is QLED and what is UHD?
QLED is an LCD TV with quantum dots.
UHD or 'Ultra High Definition' is as reference to the Tvs resolution (3,840 x 2,160). It's not exactly the same as 4k but most are marketed as such.
The main difference is that 'Crystal UHD' does not have the QLED technology.
What both TV models have
First of all, both are made by Samsung.
Both Tvs are LCD / LED.
Both are "thin".
Both have similar connectivity: HDMI, wi fi, bluetooth.
Operational system: Tizen.
The difference between the two
Like I said before, 'Crystal UHD' does not have the QLED technology. So:
- The QLED technology allows better brightness and color (Watch the video below). This makes the QLED better for daytime use.
- Gaming: QLED is slightly better when it comes to gaming (Newer 'Game enhancer' technology).
- Audio: QLED has a slighly better sound.
Note: The resolution may be the same depending on the TV models you compare.
Which one is better?
I'll sum it up in the table below. Green means it is better and red means it is worse:
Crystal UHD | QLED | |
---|---|---|
Brightness | ❌ | ✅ |
Color | ❌ | ✅ |
Gaming | ❌ | ✅ |
Audio | ❌ | ✅ |
Price | ✅ | ❌ |
So, if you're looking for better image quality, choose QLED. If you are on an budget (Or maybe you can't see the difference in the video below), choose Samsung 'Crystal UHD'.

FAQ
Is QLED worth the extra money...
QLED Tvs are worth buying if you stream movies, games, or shows regularly. If you are looking for a TV with an enhanced brightness display, the layer of quantum dots helps to achieve additional vibrancy compared to a traditional LCD image.
Are Crystal UHD Tvs good...
They are more on the simple side of things but still perfectly good for basic tasks such as streaming. They're all 4K resolution and support HDR (high dynamic range) which promises better color, but be aware that budget Tvs don't tend to have good enough brightness to make the most of it.
Looking for a new TV?
Choosing a TV can be very difficult if you know nothing about technology.
Some will pay for features they do not need while others may not consider what they really want.
